Title: A small insert is a feature, not a compromise

A small insert makes sense for a trip. You can keep everything from that trip together and then put the finished insert away. I'd rather have to start a second booklet than carry around a much bigger notebook with loads of empty pages.

That trade-off depends a lot on what you stick in it. Tickets and folded maps can take up more room than their page count suggests, so I'd judge the insert by the usable space left after allowing for keepsakes.

I'd leave a couple of spreads mostly undecorated for tickets, since sticker layers add bulk too. I wouldn't plan every page in advance.

For a ticket or map I want to keep, I'd attach one edge with washi so I can flip it up and still use the page underneath. A full spread gets eaten up fast otherwise!

I'd write any notes on that page first, then add the washi hinge last. I can see myself trying to write around the ticket otherwise.

That's the appeal of a separate trip insert for me too. I'd put the trip name and dates on the cover before filing it away; a few slim booklets can start looking alike on a shelf.

I leave a little clear space around the washi hinge too, or nearby sticker layers catch the ticket flap and make a bulky ridge.
