Why is putting clean laundry away so much harder than actually washing it?
I can get through the washing and drying without much thought, but then the clean basket sits there waiting to be dealt with. I think it's all the little trips between rooms and deciding where everything goes.
I keep telling myself I'll put things away as soon as they're dry, and somehow that never happens. Does anyone have a system that makes this less of a chore?
I'd sort the basket into piles by room, then carry each pile in one trip. That cuts down on the back-and-forth of putting away one item at a time.
I hang anything that needs a hanger as soon as it comes out of the dryer, before it lands in the basket. Then the later job is just folding, rather than dealing with a separate pile of things to hang.
I treat it as a small job, not a whole-basket event: one person's clothes or one drawer's worth, then stop. It needn't all be put away in one go.
Give each kind of clothing one obvious home, so putting it away doesn't mean deciding where it belongs every time. A second overflow spot just adds another decision.
