Title: Moleskine opinions might depend on what you write with
Post by: becca_m on Oct 21, 2026, 06:08 AM
I keep seeing Moleskine described as either a classic notebook or a complete disappointment, and I wonder how much of that comes down to the pens people use. I mostly write with pencils and ballpoints, so things like feathering and bleed-through aren't usually what I'm judging a notebook on.

Has anyone found that their opinion of Moleskine changed when they switched pens, or do you think the paper itself is the bigger issue?

Pen choice explains some of the split. For my planning, faint show-through is less bothersome than ink bleeding onto the next page, so two people can use the same notebook and judge the paper quite differently.

For double-sided class notes, I'd be more concerned about bleed-through than a faint shadow of writing. I'd want to try the same pen on both sides of a Moleskine page before deciding whether it works for me.
