I used to assume separate monthly and weekly sections would be awkward to navigate. With the Hobonichi Cousin, I like having the weekly pages as the place I return to and using the monthly pages mainly to check dates. There is extra flipping, but it isn't what makes a layout feel cumbersome to me.
That division is what keeps the extra flipping worthwhile for me: monthly for fixed dates, weekly for what I need to act on that week. Copying every appointment into both is where it starts to feel wasteful.
