No need to retire them completely. Keeping the darker markers to small headers or accents instead of big filled areas leaves more of the reverse usable.

Last post by plannerless - Oct 25, 2026, 01:48 PM
When I start thinking a planner isn't working, I try leaving the sections I never use blank for a while before blaming the whole layout. If the dates and task space still work, maybe those extra boxes are just making it feel like another job. I keep buying planners and ending up back in a plain notebook, so I'm trying to give a layout a fair go before abandoning it.

I've been considering a dot-grid notebook with coloured paper, but I use quite a few muted inks and worry the tint could make them harder to read. For everyday notes, I'd want the grid and writing to stay clear in ordinary light, not just look good in a swatch. How do you judge that before committing to a whole notebook?

Tucking the loose slips into a folded sheet at the back keeps them together without adding a separate folder.

I'm trying to keep my bullet journal fairly simple, but darker marker on one page can show through enough to put me off writing on the back. Then I end up skipping pages, which feels daft when the whole point is to use the notebook. I can't decide whether to just live with it or keep those pens to one side.

Let the finished list include something you enjoyed or felt good about, too—not just tasks crossed off. That keeps the review short without making it all about productivity.

Journaling / Making a fictional travel jour...
Last post by washitangle - Oct 25, 2026, 06:46 AM
I've been tempted to make a travel journal for somewhere I haven't visited, but I can see myself filling it with pretty pages and no sense of actually going anywhere. I'd start with one imagined day and include a route, a menu or ticket, and a few notes about the little things that took longer than expected. Those ordinary details seem like they'd help it feel like a trip, not just a moodboard. Has anyone found a simple structure that keeps this kind of project moving?

I was thinking about how long an ink bottle lasts, and calendar time seems like a pretty poor comparison. A broad nib used for drawing can go through ink during a few long sessions, while a fine nib used for everyday notes may stretch the same amount across months. The way you use a pen probably matters more than how often you pick it up.

A small page clip could hold it open without changing the TN, but needing one for every spread would become its own hassle.

Journaling / Notebook videos show the setup...

When I look for examples of ordinary journal pages, most videos spend more time on layouts, paper and supplies than on the entries themselves. I can see why people don't want to put personal writing on camera, but it leaves plenty of examples of how a journal looks and few of how people actually use one.
