Journaling / Notebook videos show the setup...

When I look for examples of ordinary journal pages, most videos spend more time on layouts, paper and supplies than on the entries themselves. I can see why people don't want to put personal writing on camera, but it leaves plenty of examples of how a journal looks and few of how people actually use one.

For me, the keepers show something the tickets and notes can't, like someone's expression, the light, or the scale of a place. Order matters when the changes along the way are part of what you want to remember.

I decide based on whether I'd be annoyed if I forgot it before I could get to my usual system. If I would, I jot it down; otherwise, it can wait. I don't count on checking the pocket notebook every day.

I judge the actual pen-and-ink combo at normal note-taking speed, not from a little swatch. A quick line, page turn, and hand sweep tell me more about daily use than a gorgeous sample does.

I use placement for the distinction: outer edge means find this page again, top means there's an action to handle. Then the colors can just be colors, one less tiny system to maintain.

I was sorting through the drawer of Traveler's Notebook inserts I've abandoned, and a few had the same problem: they kept closing while I was trying to write near the middle. The paper was fine, but having to hold the page down with my other hand made me stop reaching for them. Binding behavior is one of those small things I notice a lot more now.

A couple of concrete words, like "bus on time," should be easier to scan for later than a broad mood, without making a label feel mandatory every day.

A useful Weeks update would include what got changed or quietly abandoned. When I switch systems, the dropped bits tell me more than a polished flip-through of the pages I liked.

Even a few loose slips tucked into an insert can make the notebook sit unevenly. Redistributing them may fix that without removing an insert.

Sorting through my Passport TN covers, I noticed I'm more drawn to plain exteriors than ones that say "notebook" or "journal." A label suits a book with one fixed purpose, but I like being able to change what an insert is for without the cover announcing a use I've moved on from. The label can be useful; I just prefer the flexibility of a blank cover.
