I'd treat the punched edge as a wear point rather than expect it to stay pristine indefinitely. If there's an important page you rearrange often, keep a spare and use that one to save wear on the original.

I usually choose for the story, unless the order matters, like a ferry ride or a walk where the scenery changes along the way. A photo that brings back what happened just before or after it earns its spot over three shots of the same view.

A paper that shows off sheen and keeps a line crisp can still be awkward for everyday notes if the ink stays wet for ages. For writing at speed, drying time and smear resistance matter more to me, and the result depends on the ink and nib as well as the paper.

Give each kind of clothing one obvious home, so putting it away doesn't mean deciding where it belongs every time. A second overflow spot just adds another decision.

When I skim back through short journal entries, a lot of ordinary days blur together. I'm tempted to add a tiny label at the top based on whatever made that day stand out, even if it's just the day the bus was mysteriously on time. It feels easier than writing a full recap, and I wouldn't make myself come up with one every day.

Keeping the setup lean also helps the inserts sit evenly under the elastic. A thicker folder can make thinner ones bow or shift; I judge additions by whether the stack still closes squarely and turns comfortably, not by insert count.

A Traveler's Notebook can hold ordinary trip notes right alongside more personal writing, but the leather cover doesn't stop someone from picking it up and opening it. That can change what feels comfortable to put on the page, even if privacy isn't the first thing people think about when choosing prompts or a journal format. Do you write differently when you know someone else might read it?

Track the moments your current setup creates extra work. If the same snag keeps coming up, a new format has a specific job; if the list stays empty, the format itself is probably the appeal.

I change planner systems often enough that I have a small shelf of formats that seemed promising until I actually had to use them. Sometimes I can name a problem my current setup isn't handling; other times I just want to try the new format. What do you look for to tell a real workflow gap from wanting to use another system for the fun of it?

The slots aren't the only space thief. Check the inside width at the narrowest point, since a chunky zip seam can leave two pens sitting awkwardly side by side.
