That little scribble before a ballpoint starts is annoying

I use whatever ballpoint's nearby for quick lists, and every so often it won't write until I've scribbled in the margin first. It's a small thing, but annoying when I'm trying to jot something down quickly. Is there a basic feature to look for in an everyday ballpoint to avoid that?
