How do you organize changing tasks by category on paper?

When work and personal tasks are easier to manage by category than by day, how do you lay them out on paper? A vertical weekly spread can make me assign tasks to dates before I know when they'll happen, and then I end up rewriting them as priorities shift. Do category columns or a whiteboard-style layout work better for you?

I keep an undated page with Work and Personal headings, and mark just the few current priorities. Tasks stay in their category until there's an actual date commitment; appointments go on the calendar. No need to rewrite the whole list whenever priorities shift.

Category columns work better for me with the headings on one sheet and movable tasks on sticky notes. If one shifts from Work to Personal, I can move the note instead of rewriting it.
