I keep losing track of which notebook has the note

I was looking for a measurement I'd jotted down and ended up checking three notebooks. I don't mind having a few on the go, but the little scraps of useful information seem to migrate wherever there's a spare page. Now I'm wondering if I need to be stricter about what goes where, rather than starting another list in the nearest notebook.

You could leave rough notes where they first land, but keep reusable details like measurements in one designated place. When you copy one over, include the units and what it measures so it still makes sense later.

A contents page at the front could help, so you don't have to decide exactly where every note goes. Just add a short label and page number for anything you might need to find again.
