Choosing between bound and refillable notebooks keeps turning into a storage question

I keep going round in circles over bound versus refillable notebooks for everyday notes. With a refillable cover, I could replace just the insert, but then I'd have a stack of finished ones to store. A bound notebook takes up more space while I'm using it, but the pages stay together. Is keeping used inserts a real nuisance, or am I making it more complicated than it needs to be?

A single folder or box and labels by date or subject would keep the inserts from becoming a mystery stack. I'd only keep notes I might actually need again.
