I keep putting off the index because I want it to look tidy

With a notebook I mean to keep, I want the index to be neat and useful. I leave it blank while I get started, then go back later to add page references and end up making numbering mistakes. The notes themselves are easy enough to write; it's that first clean index page I keep hesitating over.
